Biathlon
Introduction
Use Freelap to automate timing in biathlon and instantly obtain accurate data. Benefit from 0.02 s accuracy, fast setup, an automatic and wireless system, offline mode, data storage, export and sharing, split times, time gaps and rankings, a start gate, and optional LED screen display.
The system is suitable for both ski training and roller ski training.
PDF guide for biathlon
Find the reference document here to configure your Freelap system for biathlon. The current documentation includes a Biathlon - Quick Guide in the quick guides section.
Main use cases in biathlon
Total time
Time a full section, loop or training course and measure overall performance with accurate, automated timing.
Split times
Add one or more intermediate transmitters to analyze specific sections of the course and better understand performance across each segment.
Loop timing
Use a loop setup to record repeated passages during training, whether on snow or on roller skis.
Start gate setup
Add a Tx Gate Pro to your setup if you want to use a gate-style start scenario.
Multiple-athlete timing
Use an advanced setup with several transponders to time multiple athletes simultaneously during training.
Useful components
FxChip BLE + FxSki
Attach the transponder to the athlete’s ankle using its Velcro strap. Position it vertically, with the front facing outward. The quick guide states that it turns on automatically when in motion and turns off after 10 minutes of inactivity.
Tx Track Pro
Use the Tx Track Pro as a start, split or finish transmitter. Select the START / LAP / FINISH code with short presses on the button.
Place the transmitter at the edge of the track, less than 3 m from the athlete’s path, with the arrow perpendicular to the track to mark the passing line. You can also place it under the snow in the finish area if you want to extend the detection zone to 6 m.
Relay Coach BLE
Place the Relay Coach BLE after the finish transmitter to receive the transponder data, store it and transmit it via Bluetooth to your mobile device and LED Display.
The quick guide recommends placing it 10 m after the FINISH transmitter, at a height of approximately 1 meter above the ground.
Tx Full Track
Use the Tx Full Track for permanent track equipment. It covers the full width of the course and is well suited to long-term installations.
The Tx Gate Pro transmitter is a start gate specifically designed for ski starts. When the skier passes through the gate, as their shins move the wand by 10° in accordance with the FIS standard, the Tx Gate Pro emits a signal that automatically and instantly triggers the FxChip timer.
Tx Gate Pro
LED Display
Add an LED Display to show live times on screen during training. Place your mobile device and the display between 10 m and 50 m maximum after the FINISH transmitter, at approximately 1 meter above the ground.
The MyFreelap app
Then create your training session in MyFreelap. From the home screen, select a preconfigured drill and follow the tutorial, or use Quick Timing to start with the basic features. Then click Start to receive your data.
Getting started with biathlon
I am new to Freelap
Start with the starter setup using FxChip BLE + FxSki and 2 Tx Track Pro transmitters. It allows you to time a full section or loop training session with live results.
I want to measure split times
Add Tx Track Pro or Tx Full Track transmitters coded as LAP. Respect a minimum of 0.7 seconds between 2 transmitters, with a maximum of 11 transmitters on your path.
I want to time several athletes
Use an advanced setup with several transponders. The current page presents a configuration for up to 10 athletes simultaneously.
I want a start gate
Add a Tx Gate Pro to your setup if you want to include a start-gate scenario.
I want more options on the track
Add more Tx Track Pro transmitters or a Tx Full Track to increase the number of split points or equip the course permanently.
