Four Swiss bike parks. One challenge: beat the clock.
For its 2026 edition, Red Bull Downtime Switzerland chose the Freelap electronic timing system to deliver an exciting and interactive downhill mountain biking experience.
Across four event weekends, riders had the opportunity to push their limits, improve their times and compete against the clock.
A Race Against the Clock
Held in Les Crosets, Lenzerheide, Verbier and Wiriehorn, Red Bull Downtime Switzerland invited mountain bikers to test their speed on selected downhill trails.
The concept was simple: ride the course, beat your previous time and keep improving with every run.
Participants could complete multiple runs throughout the day, challenging themselves to achieve their personal best.
Automatic Timing with Freelap
Each event featured a straightforward and reliable timing setup:
- One timing beacon at the start of the course.
- One timing beacon at the finish to record each run.
- One electronic timing chip provided to each participant for the day.
As riders crossed the finish line, their times were instantly displayed on a large LED screen.
All results were also recorded in the event’s timing platform, allowing participants to review their performances throughout the day and access their times online afterwards.
Thanks to Freelap’s flexible API integration, the organisers were able to develop a customised timing experience tailored to the event.

The Freelap timing system played a key role in delivering a smooth and engaging experience for both riders and organisers.
