Freelap featured on Canal Alpha following its Prix Montagne 2026 nomination

Based in Fleurier, in Switzerland’s Val-de-Travers, Freelap is one of six projects nominated for the 2026 Prix Montagne. Following this nomination, Swiss regional television channel Canal Alpha produced a report about the company, its history and the sports timing systems it provides to athletes and coaches around the world.

Recognition for local roots and international innovation

Since 2011, the Prix Montagne has recognized companies and projects that contribute directly to economic value creation, employment and diversification in Switzerland’s mountain regions.

For the 2026 edition, a seven-member jury chaired by former Olympic cross-country skiing champion Dario Cologna selected six exemplary projects, including Freelap.

The nomination highlights how a company based in a Swiss mountain region can develop innovative technology locally and build an international presence far beyond its place of origin.

From Fleurier to training grounds around the world

For more than 20 years, Freelap has been developing electronic timing solutions designed to make performance measurement simpler, more accurate and easier to integrate into everyday training.

In its report, Canal Alpha looks back at Jean-Pierre Baumann’s journey and the development of Freelap. The company’s timing systems have supported nearly 100,000 athletes worldwide, from regional athletics clubs to coaches and sprinters competing at the highest level.

This development has always been guided by a straightforward objective : enabling athletes and coaches to measure performance accurately without disrupting the flow of their training sessions.

Today, Freelap continues to develop its products and digital ecosystem from Fleurier while supporting a growing international community across multiple sports.
